DESCRIPTION:The lecture categorises the maritime aspects in the overall st
 rategy of the Alliance against the background of the overall geopolitical 
 situation. In the 1980s\, it was a bipolar static conflict in which the na
 val power NATO consciously deployed its maritime components within the fra
 mework of CONMAROPS and the US Maritime Strategy in such a way that they i
 nfluenced the continental front by threatening the flank of the WP. And th
 is was done from a situation of relative maritime superiority of the Allia
 nce. At present\, NATO and the Western community are being challenged on t
 heir flanks in a multipolar era. The geopolitical situation is not static\
 , but we are increasingly being openly challenged. Energy issues and the m
 ovement of goods\, raw materials and knowledge production\, but also class
 ic topics such as order at sea and the security of nations will be on our 
 minds this semester.
