Dr. Frank Umbach appeared on n-tv on March 29 to analyze the possible deployment of U.S. ground troops in Iran and the German government’s stance toward the United States.
The success of such a mission is militarily risky and politically questionable, especially given the imbalance of power—particularly if it involves a long-term occupation of Iranian territory. Furthermore, airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel would not be able to halt Iran’s nuclear program in the long term.
He also criticizes Germany’s reluctance and warns of negative repercussions for U.S. engagement in Europe.
