On Friday, July 5, 2024, the Johannes Rau Research Association held the Parliamentary Breakfast “Silk Road” in North Rhine-Westphalia's State Parliament, where Nicolas Huppenbauer from CASSIS presented research from his doctoral thesis on the topic of “De-Risking or Connectivity - China’s Economic Role in NRW.”
Young Leaders Summer Academy on "Climate change and Security"
The CASSIS and the ICI organised a Summer Academy for future decision-makers from the Middle East and Europe, focussing on the nexus of climate change and security.

We are pleased to announce that the Managing Director of CASSIS and security expert Dr. Enrico Fels has been successful in obtaining funding from the European Climate Foundation for the research project on "H2 Reality Check - Reappraising the EU's H2 Strategy in a New Era of Geopolitical Disruptions", which will start in July 2024. Congratulations to him and the colleagues involved!
MSIS-students visit NATO Headquarters and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Brussels
From June 27 to 28, 2024, students from the Master’s Program “Strategy and International Security” (MSIS) embarked on an insightful field trip to Brussels, visiting the Brussels office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and NATO Headquarters. The field trip was organized by Dr. Cedric Bierganns, KAS Bonn, Philipp van Helden, Research Fellow at the Henry-Kissinger-Chair for Security and Strategic Studies and Ambassador (ret.) Dirk Brengelmann, Fellow at CASSIS. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty, the students engaged in discussions with high-ranking officials from EU, NATO, and other renowned think tanks about current challenges and the future of transatlantic and European Security.

How has the debate on German Foreign Policy changed since the German Reunification 1990? In a seminar organised together with Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Matthias Herdegen, Director of the Institute for Public International Law and Institute for Public Law at the University of Bonn, and Dr. Norbert Röttgen, member of the German Bundestag, the students from the Master's programme "Strategy and International Security" (MSIS) delved into the controversial questions of Germany's position in the world and its historical legacy.
Re-election of the CASSIS Board of Directors and admission of new voting members of the Steering Committee
The Steering Committee of the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies at the University of Bonn recently met. As part of the Steering Committee meeting, the current CASISS directors were re-elected. In addition, two new voting members of the Steering Committee were elected. Our warmest congratulations!
CASSIS team at the International Studies Association Convention (ISA) in San Francisco
CASSIS was strongly represented at the International Studies Association (ISA) 2024 this year. Prof. Dr. Maximilian Mayer, PD Dr. Ante Nötzold, Yen-Chi Lu, Philip Nock, Nelson Quame and Maximilian Schranner took part in the largest and most important annual conference in the field of international relations with various contributions.
