Dr. Umbach began its interview by explaining that Russia and the US had abandoned the original goal of a ceasefire in favor of a peace agreement. As a result, Russia could drag out the negotiations for a peace agreement and continue its military offensives in Ukraine with undiminished intensity. The security expert also commented on the prospects of success for an intervention by the “coalition of the willing” in Ukraine. Now that countries such as the UK, France, and Estonia had already confirmed their participation in such a peacekeeping mission, Dr. Umbach believed that the German government should take a similar step. A German participation is necessary to maintain Germany's “credibility” in terms of security policy vis-à-vis its European NATO partners, Dr. Umbach said at the end of the interview.
