In his new specialist publication, PD Dr. Hüseyin Çiçek sheds light on how the AKP is increasingly relying on soft power as a power mechanism alongside established political alliances in order to promote its interests internationally. Particular attention is paid to addressing and integrating the Turkish diaspora through emotional and cultural ties. The analysis also touches on the impact of the AKP's minority policy on its foreign policy ambitions.

Strategic competition in space: politics, law, security and economics in space

For the first time since the end of the Cold War, this anthology takes stock of the current activities, legal framework, political and military lines of conflict and areas of cooperation as well as further trends and challenges in space. On the one hand, the legal, military, economic and technological challenges of the growing importance of this strategically important area are analyzed. On the other hand, the ability and need for action of selected space powers, their cooperation possibilities and conflict potentials as well as the need for international political regulation are worked out and, based on this, political recommendations for action are presented.

Bonn Future Lab on Strategic Foresight 2023 – Global Energy Transitions

The Bonn Future Lab on Strategic Foresight took place as the second segment of the International Security Forum Bonn 2023 from October 20-22, 2023 in the UN and federal city of Bonn. Over the course of the multi-day format, the strategic challenges, risks and opportunities arising from the changing energy landscape were discussed and the resulting future prospects for German and European energy policy were examined.

Anthology: Recommender Systems: Legal and Ethical Issues

Scott Robbins, together with his colleague Sergio Genovesi and Katharina Kaesling, has published an edited volume on "Recommender Systems: Legal and Ethical Issues" as part of the series "The International Library of Ethics, Law and Technology" 2023. The anthology offers interdisciplinary perspectives on the use and development of recommender systems as well as a conceptual analysis of controversial ideas in the field of ADM systems. The publication includes an assessment of regulatory needs and legislative responses in various legal disciplines. The book is open access, which means you have free and unlimited access.

The French president's comments on Taiwan have made waves in Europe. And rightly so. Emmanuel Macron has gone too far this time. Once again, he wanted to provoke his partners and thus initiate a new debate about Europe's strategic autonomy. In the end, he got himself into hot water diplomatically. His message was lost and the impression took root that he wanted to maintain an equidistance from the U.S. and China in the conflict over the island state. It has often been overlooked that France, with its overseas territories and its 9 million km2 exclusive economic zone, does have interests in the region, and vital ones at that.
