German-French Strategic Dialogue:

The Future Role of Ukraine in a Secure Europe

October 28th, 2025 / 6.15 p.m. - 7.45 p.m. / Institut Français Bonn, Adenauerallee 35, 53113 Bonn

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has fundamentally changed the security landscape in Europe. Germany and France now face major challenges in a complex web of defense readiness, economic adjustment, and diplomatic coordination. The challenge now lies in balancing sustained support for Ukraine with our own national security interests and the requirements of European integration processes. The fragile transatlantic partnership further complicates the strategic situation. Together with Ukraine, European states are seeking new strategies to defend freedom, the rule of law, and democratic values, and to secure the future of the European order in the long term.

As part of the German-French Strategic Dialogue, our panel of experts will examine the current situation in Ukraine, the changing security landscape in Europe, and the strategic options available to Germany and France in a pre-event to the International Security Forum Bonn. What role could Ukraine play in a future order? What political, economic, and military instruments are available to Germany and France to promote a secure Europe together with Ukraine?

A joint event of the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) together with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), the Institut français Bonn, the Centre Ernst Robert Curtius (CERC) and the Bonn Student Group for Foreign and Security Policy (BHAS).
