Schweitzer’s comeback is reminiscent of the last state election in Baden-Württemberg. In the end, it might even be enough for the incumbent to win the election. Alexander Schweitzer is known for being very close to the people. He is a “man of the center” who cares about the concerns of local residents. This makes him appealing—even to CDU voters.

Schweitzer symbolizes the SPD’s claim to be a people’s party. Prof. Dr. Volker Kronenberg emphasized that—if the SPD is serious about this claim—more pragmatism is required.
