Prof. Heinemann-Grüder on n-tv: “People are being forcibly converted to Russianness” Prof. Heinemann-Grüder on n-tv: “People are being forcibly converted to Russianness”

Following the example of zoning in Germany after the Second World War, the USA is proposing a model for Ukraine. “It has the flavor of the 19th century,” says peace researcher Andreas Heinemann-Grüder. Meanwhile, Trump is trying to achieve a ceasefire. But that also seems a long way off.

Peace researcher Andreas Heinemann-Grüder criticizes Russian policy in Ukraine in an interview with ntv. He speaks of a “forced conversion to Russianness” and warns of a cultural erasure of Ukrainian identity. He rejects the US proposal to divide up Ukraine along the lines of the German post-war zones and describes it as backward-looking. He also expresses doubts about US President Trump's peace efforts, which he believes have little chance of success.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Heinemann-Grüder2 is Senior Fellow at CASSIS and Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Bonn. His research focuses on politics and conflicts in the post-Soviet space, comparative federalism, the resurgence of authoritarianism and violent political crises involving irregular armed groups.
