The mayor masterfully overcame several challenges, such as the coronavirus pandemic and the torrential rains in July 2021, and consequently continues to enjoy the trust of his citizens. In this case, the party affiliation plays “a subordinate role,” according to Prof. Dr. Kronenberg. However, the election result in Euskirchen is not an isolated case in North Rhine-Westphalia. The political scientist observed that candidates with strong personalities are also able to score points in other North Rhine-Westphalian municipalities.
