Profile

Dr Sebastian Haug is a Senior Researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and has more than 10 years of experience researching multilateral organisations, international cooperation and global power shifts. He used to work for the United Nations in China and Mexico, and has held visiting positions at the Istanbul Policy Center, the College of Mexico and New York University. Sebastian is the lead editor of “Power shifts in international organisations: China at the United Nations” (Global Policy, 2024) and “The ‘Global South’ in the study of world politics” (Third World Quarterly, 2021). He regularly advises governmental bodies and multilateral organisations on South-South and triangular cooperation and serves on different academic and policy advisory boards. In 2025, Sebastian received the International Affairs early career prize. He holds a Master of Science from the University of Oxford and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
