What does the U.S. National Security Strategy mean for Europe?

April 21, 2026 | 7:00–8:30 p.m. | Room 4.001, Lennéstraße 6, 53113 Bonn

On December 5, 2025, the White House released the United States (U.S.) National Security Strategy (NSS) for 2025. The NSS sets forth the U.S. foreign policy principles, priorities, and focal points in various regions of the world. The NSS 2025 represents a significant realignment of the U.S. worldview and a redefinition of the U.S. role in the current world order. It differs from previous NSS documents, among other things, in how domestic security priorities—such as border security—influence current U.S. foreign policy, and how U.S. relations with traditional allies and adversaries are shaped. U.S. President Donald Trump’s ideological agenda features prominently in the NSS, particularly with regard to Europe.
