Since 2022, nearly every technological "game changer" in Russia's war against Ukraine has been overtaken or diminished within a matter of months—a pattern that demonstrates how easily rapid innovation can be mistaken for a strategic turning point.

Alexey Yusupov, Head of the Russia Program at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, will examine the structural factors shaping Russia's conduct of the war—including its economy, demographics, public support, alliance network, and foreign policy—and discuss how these factors can be used to develop a realistic threat assessment. His analyses are regularly sought by NATO, the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), and leading German media outlets.
