“Protection of critical maritime infrastructures” Contribution to the German Security Policy Forum 2025 (#DFS2025)

May 6, 2025 / 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. / digital

Maritime infrastructures form the backbone of modern economies - and at the same time are vulnerable and their protection beyond national control is a complex challenge. In the field of tension between increasing geopolitical risks, military and “hybrid” threats in the face of critical social dependency, their security is moving into the strategic focus. The panel will discuss specific risks, new approaches to protection and political control options based on the question: How can the state, armed forces, business and science jointly contribute to resilience?

In an exchange with representatives from the Bundeswehr, industry, research and security policy consulting, the panel will shed light on

- current vulnerabilities of maritime infrastructure,
- practical and political protection mechanisms,
- as well as the status of the debate on dual-use approaches in the European context.
