In the interview, Dr. Frank Umbach explained that the delivery of "Patriot" air defense systems to Ukraine, recently decided by the United States, is far from sufficient to effectively counter the increasing Russian air attacks on Ukrainian territory. Ukraine needs a significant number of combat aircraft to destroy Russia's missile systems in time – in a way which is similar to the Israeli airstrikes in Iran – before the latter can be used to bombard Ukrainian cities, says Dr. Umbach. According to him, this "strategic dilemma" has not yet been solved by the West. The security expert also recalled that Russia is able to produce larger quantities of weapons systems faster and cheaper than the West.
