In 1943/44, various factors had already resulted in a long-term overall political-military constellation that already contained the roots of the Allied victory. Several diplomatic initiatives had failed and allies of the National Socialists had withdrawn from the war effort. Ulrich Schlie sees minor parallels here with the war in Ukraine, with Putin displaying elements of Hitler's radicalism and lack of conscience. However, as the overall strategic situation differs between the two scenarios, parallels should only be drawn with caution.
