The agreement is the result of a process initiated by President Macron during his visit to Warsaw in February 2020. However, due to the tensions between Paris and the PiS government, it could not be realized. With the election victory of the center-left opposition under Donald Tusk, work was resumed. In the meantime, Macron had reconsidered his attitude towards Russia and promised the Eastern European countries more equality at the Globsec Forum in Bratislava - a long overdue promise.

On Friday, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Tusk will sign a comprehensive Polish-French treaty in Nancy. This agreement renews the strategic partnership that the two countries entered into back in 2008 and sets the course for increased cooperation within the framework of the Weimar Triangle and beyond.
Dr. habil. Landry Charrier studied at the universities of Nantes and Düsseldorf. Between 2007 and 2017, he taught at the German Department of the University of Clermont Auvergne as Associate Professor of Franco-German Relations. From 2017 to 2022, he worked for the French cultural network abroad on behalf of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. After working in Bonn as head of the Institut français and university attaché, he worked in The Hague as attaché for scientific and university cooperation. He now works as a scientific advisor for the DLR Project Management Agency in Bonn (European and bilateral cooperation).
