In the Frankfurter Rundschau article, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schlie, Professor of Security and Strategy Research at the University of Bonn, analyzes the security significance of the Israeli Arrow 3 missile defence system - particularly in light of the recent Iranian attacks on Israel. According to Schlie, Arrow 3 has impressively demonstrated its effectiveness under real operational conditions and thus marks a new quality of strategic defense capability. For Germany, the system offers a decisive option for responding to threats from ballistic and potentially also hypersonic missiles from Russia. Schlie emphasized that although Arrow 3 does not eliminate all deficits in Germany's air defence system, it could play a central role as part of a multi-layered protection concept - for example as part of the European Sky Shield Initiative. According to Schlie, it is important to combine the system with complementary components such as Patriot and IRIS-T in order to effectively defend against both high-altitude and low-flying operations. Investing in modern missile defense is therefore not only a technological but also a geopolitical step towards strengthening German and European deterrence capabilities.
