On November 21, 2025, the Federal Ministry of the Interior established the new “Advisory Group on Preventing and Combating Islamism.” The aim of the advisory group is to develop a federal-state action plan to combat Islamism in Germany. The committee, consisting of 15 experts from academia, practice, and security agencies, is tasked with developing a holistic, preventive, and repressive approach to systematically identify and effectively limit Islamist structures, activities, and radicalization processes, particularly in the digital sphere and in education.
Prof. Dr. Christine Schirrmacher, an Islamic scholar at the Universities of Bonn and Leuven and a member of the CASSIS Center Council, has been appointed to the advisory board as a proven expert in Islamism research. She will contribute her scientific expertise on political Islam, Islamism, and radicalization processes to the committee's security and socio-political work.
CASSIS warmly congratulates Prof. Schirrmacher on this success!
