Umwelt, Klima und Chinas unvollendete Moderne

Pollution and greenhouse emissions on a massive scale not only threaten to destroy the livelihoods of many Chinese, but have become a factor in global climate change. At the same time, the country is already more affected by extreme weather than ever before. In response, China's leadership is propagating the concept of "ecological civilisation". Often condemned in the West as a climate sinner, China has now enacted extensive environmental legislation and is pushing low-emission technologies and sustainable energy supply with subsidies and innovation policies like no other country.
What are China's climate goals? Has Chinese modernisation failed as far as sustainability is concerned, or is Chinese-style "environmental authoritarianism" a model for the future? How does the geopolitical showdown influence Beijing's climate policy? And which fields of cooperation between China and Germany should be further developed?
