This is a high priority for Iran, which has made it clear that ending the program is not up for negotiation. According to Dr. Frank Umbach, the long-term strategic goal of the US and Europe is to prevent nuclear armament in the region and deny Iran access to missiles that can reach Europe.

The chances of a negotiated solution are currently difficult to assess. Military pressure from the Americans is high, and Iran is threatening to strike American bases in the region. However, if Iran does not make any concessions, an escalation is conceivable, concluded Dr. Frank Umbach.
