According to Dr. Brake, the complexity of the operation does not pose an obstacle to further acts of sabotage. If the current assumptions are confirmed, the attack was carried out in such a way that it could in principle be repeated on other maritime infrastructure—and by a variety of different actors. At the same time, however, it is not yet possible to clearly identify who is actually behind the attack. Secret services are interested in “[...] falsifying evidence and laying false trails.” The only certainty is that there were numerous actors “[...] who had an interest in putting Nord Stream out of action”, Dr. Brake said.
