The panel discussed Konrad Adenauer’s personal and political trajectory, with particular attention given to the development of his understanding of democracy. The discussion repeatedly returned to the question of what lessons can be drawn from Adenauer’s life: Would Europe already be a unified state today? Would there have been a political “firewall” under Adenauer? These and other questions were addressed by Dr. Friedrich Kießling during the discussion.
