According to Prof. Dr. Volker Kronenberg, political scientist at the University of Bonn and spokesperson and director of CASSIS, the attack in Solingen significantly changed the debate on migration policy in Germany: “This attack in Solingen in particular—a city already marked by the memory of the racist firebomb attack in 1993—was perceived across party lines as a turning point,” Professor Kronenberg told the Evangelical Press Service (epd). The attack could also be seen as the result of insufficient cooperation between authorities and also reflected an imbalance between European and national legislation.

Prof. Dr. Volker Kronenberg is Speaker and Director of the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) as well as Professor for Political Science at the University Bonn
