During the interview, Weber described the current phase of the conflict as the most serious attempt to date to end the war through diplomatic means. He said that the chances of this happening were higher than at any time since the start of hostilities, even though the outcome remained uncertain.
With regard to the reported attack on a residence of the Russian president, Weber expressed doubts about Ukraine's direct involvement. He described the incident as a possible attempt to distract and confuse the American president. From Ukraine's perspective, such a move would have been extremely unwise and therefore seems unlikely.
Regarding the role of the United States, Weber expressed his conviction that the US president would not make any surprising changes of course in the coming year. The interests of Ukraine and Europe played a subordinate role for him; the primary goal guiding his actions remained securing economic and strategic advantages for the US.
