In an interview with phoenix, Prof. Dr. Kronenberg first addressed the widespread assumption that centrist parties are in crisis and that the parties on the political fringes are poised for unstoppable growth. He countered that the political center could now use this crisis to draw new strength from it. Regarding the chancellor’s position, he said that, now that a change in leadership has been averted, chancellor Merz now has a window of opportunity until spring to improve his policies and communication. Kronenberg attributed much of the AfD’s success, particularly in Saxony-Anhalt, to the media presence and popularity of its lead candidate, Siegmund, especially on social media. In Berlin, Kronenberg suspects that the SPD, the Greens, and the Left Party will form a governing coalition.
