Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schlie gave a lecture on Henry Kissinger's view of history and understanding of politics at the National University of Public Service Ludovica in Budapest on 26 May 2023. This lecture was embedded in the conference on "Im Spannungsfeld zwischen Werten und Realpolitik" organised by the Otto von Habsburg Foundation on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the former US Minister of Foreign Affairs Henry A. Kissinger.

On the one hand, this conference was intended to look back on the historical events of the 1970s, which represented an important phase in the careers of the politicians Henry Kissinger and Otto von Habsburg. On the other hand, it was intended to shed light on how Europe's relations with the three (super)powers have developed since then and what they look like today, especially in view of the bloody war in Ukraine and American and European concerns about China.

The conference was organised by the Otto von Habsburg Foundation and the Institute for Strategic Studies at University of Public Service Ludovica, Budapest.

Ulrich Schlie is director of the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) and Henry Kissinger Professor of Security and Strategic Studies at the Institute for Political Science and Sociology.
