Strategic foresight

Strategic foresight formats are intended to help build CASSIS into a national strategy center and to sharpen the public's understanding of strategic challenges in analytical and conceptual terms, as well as to provide new approaches for the foresighted shaping of internal structures of security policy and international relations in cooperation with political actors. The guiding idea is to base the security policy and geo-economic analyses developed at CASSIS on a comprehensive, cross-thematic understanding of strategy. Both geopolitical and geo-economic challenges will continue to increase in the coming years. The strategic challenges posed by the consequences of climate change and its management by society as a whole, the energy supply that is undergoing a global transformation, and increasing economic competition are not yet being considered sufficiently systematically in Germany today.

Against this background and in order to strengthen the dialogue, several formats of the Strategic Foresight will be developed in cooperation with science, industry and politics in order to obtain a comprehensive whole-of-government risk picture by combining not only a geostrategic and geo-economic perspective, but also the governmental with the private sector perspective. These reports are intended to enable the Federal Government and the German Bundestag to address risk assessment and cross-cutting security issues in the understanding of a holistic, networked approach and to help identify existing deficits and potentials as well as to develop operational solution proposals to overcome or exploit them, thus contributing to a National Strategic Foresight.

The scenario workshop of the "International Security Forum Bonn", the task force "Future of Transatlantic Relations" and the risk picture "Strategic Risk and Preparedness Report for Germany in Europe" are part of the Strategic Foresight, which is being developed in cooperation with other national and international university and non-university research institutions.
