Prof. Dr. Hornidge emphasized that the instrumentalization of the newly introduced bike path on Adenauerallee played a central role in the election campaign, even though the bike path itself only slightly slowed down traffic after its completion. The main cause of traffic congestion, on the other hand, was the construction phase of the bike path. Hornidge also attributes Katja Dörner's defeat in the runoff election for mayor to the continuing car-centricity of German society and demographic aging.

The Green Party's transport projects pursued the goal of climate-friendly mobility for all age groups, but this was counteracted by the election campaign debates. Prof. Dr. Hornidge pointed out that, despite the election defeat, a parliamentary majority for Green transport policy in the city council remains possible, provided that no new coalition with the CDU is formed.

Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge is Director of the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), Co-Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) and member of the Center Council of the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) at the University of Bonn.
