Military spending is on the rise worldwide, and this trend is expected to continue over the next four to five years. Europe, in particular, is responding to pressure from the U.S., but investment in defense is also increasing in Southeast Asia and Africa.

Unlike during the Cold War, however, there is no longer any arms control or diplomacy in this area. Instead, all parties involved are preparing for the “worst-case scenario,” which is leading to an arms race.
