The old liberal world order is over: wars, authoritarian movements, and geopolitical power shifts are calling previous certainties into question. This article analyzes the end of the existing international order, the crisis of liberalism, and the strategic challenges facing Germany and Europe. At the same time, it argues for a renaissance of political liberalism—as a prerequisite for the rule of law and a viable foreign and security policy in times of global uncertainty.
