Der Ozean als Wissensraum

28 May 2024 | 06:15-07:45, p.m | Lecture Hall VII, Main Building, University of Bonn

Germany maintains an extensive fleet of research vessels. The production of knowledge in and about the world's oceans represents a central contribution to climate research. But what social processes can be observed on these research vessels?
Prof Dr Anna-Katharina Hornidge and Ramona Haegele talk about this based on empirical ethnographic research on two research vessels in Germany. They conclude that these are places of social concentration in which everyday routine, pressure to perform and the breadth of the horizon characterise social interaction.
But what are the effects of these social processes on knowledge production? Discuss this with the speakers and us!
