“Recovery, power, belonging” France starts its EU Presidency

Starting in January 2022, France will hold the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union for six months. While France’s previous EU presidency in 2008 was overshadowed by the financial crisis, this time other enormous challenges call for effective and joint action by the EU: the repercussions of the covid-19 pandemic and the emerging economic consequences of the world’s excessive fiscal policies to tackle it, the EU’s significant internal struggles, multiple crises in its immediate neighborhoods, as well as international issues from climate change to smoldering global conflicts.
